Support elected officials who advocate for the Chinese community
Representatives from the Chinese American Federation and the Chinese American Foundation were present to show their support, including Chinese American Federation President Michael Xiong, Chairwoman Yvette Yang, Supervisor Fei Pang, Honorary President Simon Shao, Executive Chairwoman Jiang Huang, Executive Supervisor Selena Zeng, Chinese American Foundation President Joey Yu, Chairwoman Sher Li, Secretary General Suki Liao, and Chinese American Federation Executive Vice Supervisor Wenjiao Lin.
This year’s fundraising event was as popular as ever, but with a different focus. The discussions with Congresswoman Judy Chu and the guests centered on how to combat the rise of anti-Asian American sentiment and trends among politicians and in society. Guests such as Councilmember Ted Lieu, Mayor of Barstow in Los Angeles, Assemblymember Mike Fong, and others highly praised Congresswoman Chu for her efforts in representing her district and protecting the rights of the Asian Pacific American community.
In her speech, Congresswoman Chu specifically mentioned that she co-drafted the "Real Estate Discrimination Act" in May with Congressman Al Green (D-TX). This legislation was in response to Florida's "SB 264" law, which bans certain groups and foreign individuals from purchasing real estate. The goal is to establish federal legislation to prevent such discriminatory laws from spreading across the nation.
For many years, leaders of the Chinese American Federation and the Chinese American Foundation have actively advocated for integration into the mainstream, addressed social issues, and supported elected officials who advocate for and represent the Chinese community, with the aim of safeguarding the shared interests of Asian Americans.
